ORCA SOM - i.MX8M Plus

Processor: NXP i.MX8M Plus

The i.MX 8M Plus family focuses on machine learning and vision, advanced multimedia, and industrial IoT with high reliability. It is built to meet the needs of Smart Home, Building, City and Industry 4.0 applications. One of the most interesting feature is the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which can be easily integrated thanks to DAVE Embedded Systems' Know How on Machine Learning applications

The main customization made by DAVE Embedded Systems will be:

  • Machine Learning NPU ready to use boards: DAVE Embedded Systems' team has a huge know how about ML applied to the Edge and can lead customers to the perfect configuration of such device. Please see our Machine Learning proposal
  • Design secure product using our Secure Boot integration competences and the EdgeLock SE050 chip integrated on board. This product family of Plug & Trust devices offers enhanced Common Criteria EAL 6+ based security, for unprecedented protection against the latest attack scenarios. This ready-to-use secure element for IoT devices provides a root of trust at the IC level and delivers real end-to-end security – from edge to cloud – without the need to write security code.
  • AMP (assymetric MultiProcessing definition between Cortex-A53 and Cortex-M7
  • Board optimization for Vision cameras thanks the Dual ISP camerase and the dual GbETH interfaces with TSM integration

Operating Systems

DAVE Embedded Software Kit Linux (DESK-MX8M-L in short - read more info about the naming) - provides all the necessary components required to set up the developing environment to:

  • build the bootloader (U-Boot)
  • build the Linux operating system
  • build Linux applications that will run on the target
  • build the Yocto BSP

The Embedded Software kit is composed by:

  • VirtualBox virtual machine containing
    • toolchain and SDK
    • U-Boot bootloader sources
    • Linux kernel sources
    • Root file system images
  • git repositories access for registered users allowing the update of the following repo
    • u-boot
    • linux
    • Yocto BSP
  • SD card with the complete environment for
    • the DVDK OVA file (i.e. the Virtual Machine file to be imported into VirtualBox application)
    • a complete Kit bootstrap and demonstration (with u-boot, kernel and root file systems binaries already configured)
